Hayk Konjoryan Responds to Opposition Statements on Artsakh's Status and Preventing War
Hayk Konjoryan, the head of the parliamentary faction of the ruling political force, the Civil Contract party, has characterized the opposition's statements regarding the status of Artsakh and preventing war as utterly unfounded and misleading to the public. In a post on his Facebook page, Konjoryan noted that the opposition had not responded in any way to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's proposal and had not specified what specific steps should be taken to prevent the war.
“This week, during the government question-and-answer session, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made a very important observation in response to questions from opposition deputies regarding the status of Artsakh and preventing war. As of 2018, the negotiating content regarding Artsakh did not provide any theoretical or practical prospect for it being outside Azerbaijan's control. Therefore, under such a legacy of negotiations, the only means of preventing war was the surrender of territories without clarifying the status of Artsakh, which would mean handing Artsakh over to Azerbaijan,” he stated.
“Following this, the Prime Minister made a clear proposal to the opposition: declare what specific steps you would take to prevent the war, and indicate the sequence of specific actions. Today, it must be noted that up to this point, the opposition has not denied the Prime Minister's statement, nor have they responded to the Prime Minister's proposal, and have not stated what specific steps should be taken to prevent the war. This is further evidence that the opposition's statements regarding the status of Artsakh and preventing war are completely unfounded and aim to mislead the public, just as it has been done for decades.”
