Gegham Nazaryan Discusses the Nomination of the Human Rights Defender by Factions

National Assembly member Gegham Nazaryan from the "Armenia" faction spoke with ArmDaily.am regarding the rapid nomination of a candidate for the Human Rights Defender by the ruling "Civil Contract" party. He stated that the party is not in a hurry and believes that they are, most likely, sending messages to the public.

"They are probably sending messages to the public, to neighboring countries, about what they want, what their vision of Armenia is, and through that candidate, they are conveying specific messages to certain countries," Nazaryan said.

When asked whether this relates to the so-called 'era of peace,' Nazaryan expressed regret over the use of the term 'peace' in their statements, suggesting that the term 'era of humiliation' should be applied instead. He added that the candidacy falls within the context of the era of humiliation.

Regarding the nomination of their own candidate for the Human Rights Defender, Nazaryan mentioned that the faction is currently discussing its feasibility, but no final decision has been made yet.

"Honorary Member" faction deputy Hayk Mamijanyan remarked that in his deep conviction, for a long time now, the most effective and genuinely functioning institution for the state in the Republic of Armenia is the Office of the Human Rights Defender, among a few others. "It is a titanic effort, and I seize every opportunity to express my gratitude to him and his team. Naturally, it stands like a bone in the throat of the authorities, and they are trying to get rid of him as soon as possible. Regarding the candidate from the ruling party, the term 'candidate proposed by the CP' speaks volumes about the person and it is unnecessary to discuss his qualitative professional characteristics," Mamijanyan said.

As for the readiness to nominate their own candidate for the Human Rights Defender, Mamijanyan noted that at this moment, their faction does not have such willingness.
