Carlsen Defends World Chess Champion Title Early
Norwegian Magnus Carlsen has defended his title as World Chess Champion ahead of schedule, securing victory against Russian grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi in the 11th game. Even if Nepomniachtchi were to win the remaining 3 games, he would not be able to reach Carlsen; after 11 games, the score was 7.5 to 3.5.
It is worth noting that Carlsen became World Champion in 2013 and has defended the title for the fourth time now. The champion will receive 1.2 million euros, while his opponent will earn 800 thousand euros.
