Armenian Athlete Defeats Opponent in 15 Seconds to Claim World Champion Title
On December 4th, during a competition held in New York, our compatriot living in the United States, Edgar Soghomonyan, who is also the vice-president of the International Federation of Duken-do Full Contact Karate, won the MMA version of the Karate World Champion title. The athlete shared a video of his fight and the award ceremony on his Facebook page.
Notably, in the ECF super heavyweight category, Edgar Soghomonyan competed against Matthew Folkins. The match lasted 15 seconds, with our athlete bringing his opponent to the ground and winning shortly thereafter.
During the awards ceremony, Ara Gevorgyan's piece “Artsakh” was playing. Edgar stepped onto the podium wearing a shirt with a photo of his friend, Armen Avetisyan, dedicating his victory to the young weightlifting champion who died at a young age.
It is worth mentioning that in the summer, after securing his next victory, Edgar Soghomonyan dedicated it to the memory of our soldiers who died during the 44-day war, as well as to all soldiers of the Armenian army, including his two sons.
