Protesters Threaten to Block Path of Wounded Soldier Transporting to Yerevan: Their Perspective

The Ministry of Defense has issued a statement regarding the Deputy Commander in Vardenis saying that they threaten to obstruct the vehicle transporting the wounded to Yerevan.

In an interview with Auroranews, David Shahnazaryan, a member of the 'Unified Vardenis' alliance and a participant in the protest, stated, "Such an attitude towards our soldiers, our army, has not existed. We suspended our indefinite action and opened the road due to the border tension to avoid obstructing any situation."

Shahnazaryan added that many participants in the rally have taken part in the 44-day war and have felt all the difficulties of the war firsthand: "How could those people obstruct the transport of a wounded soldier? Even an ambulance came when they announced an accident, and the residents quickly opened the road to let it through. How could they obstruct those who ensure their safety?"

When asked if he was present during the entire protest, he mentioned that he was absent for a brief period.

Another protester, requesting anonymity, indicated that it is possible that in a moment of anger, a few people may have said something like that, but they would naturally clear the road for any vehicle transporting soldiers and the Ministry of Defense.

It should be noted that yesterday, Azerbaijani armed forces units resorted to provocations, firing intensively at the Armenian combat positions located along the border in the Gegharkunik region from 16:25 onwards with various calibers of firearms. As a result of the provocation, two soldiers from the Armenian side sustained light gunshot wounds.

Residents of Vardenis had closed the Martuni-Vardenis highway in support of Aram Harutyunyan, who heads the list of the 'Unified Vardenis' alliance, and were presenting their demands. Following the local self-government elections in Vardenis, when the 'Aharon Khachatryan' and 'Unified Vardenis' alliances announced their intention to form a coalition, the investigation committee of Sevan summoned Aram Harutyunyan for questioning and arrested him. Today, a court decision is expected to be made regarding Harutyunyan's detention.
