Conditions of Detention for Armenia's 'Hayastan' Alliance MPs: 'Hraparak'
'Hraparak' newspaper reports that members of the 'Hayastan' alliance, Armen Charentsyan, Arthur Sargsyan, and former Meghri mayor Mkhtiar Zakaryan are held in 'Vardashen' penitentiary, which is designated for law enforcement agencies and individuals with special status. In contrast, Arush Arushanyan, who receives 'unique' treatment from the authorities, is in the 'Yerevan Center' prison affiliated with the NSS.
Zakaryan and Sargsyan share a cell, while Professor Charentsyan is housed separately. Typically, political prisoners are accorded a level of respect in detention facilities, and this situation is no exception. Everyone understands that these individuals will eventually be released; they are not guilty in the classical sense and may rise to high statuses after their release.
Professor Armen Charentsyan receives even greater respect, with his cell doors left open. In such facilities, this privilege is granted to individuals who are considered to be 'zone' watchers and their protégés.
