“Beyond the Gates of Syunik, Your Fears Disappear”: Takhouhi Tovmasyan
The Chairperson of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Human Rights and Public Affairs, Takhouhi Tovmasyan, writes on her Facebook page: “December 10 is International Human Rights Day. This year's theme for Human Rights Day is equality, but today in Armenia, there is an absolute absence of guarantees for the protection of life and freedom of movement. Every day, we witness gross and widespread violations of the fundamental rights of border residents, which means that our rights are also being infringed upon.
“When one person's rights are endangered, the rights of all of us are violated,” as John F. Kennedy said. On this significant day, I have decided to visit the border villages of Syunik to familiarize myself with the new situation on the ground and the associated issues faced by the residents. Syunik truly has its own spirit; beyond the gates, one feels a certain impregnable vigor, and your fears disappear.”
