Zakharova on Formation of Border Demarcation Commission Between Armenia and Azerbaijan

High-level agreements reached in Sochi affirm the willingness of the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia to take further steps towards resolution. This was noted by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, during a weekly briefing in response to a question from a News correspondent.

“In our communications with Baku and Yerevan, we are working on the consistent implementation of these agreements, including the resolution of border disputes and the unblocking of transport links in the South Caucasus. As the parties agreed during their meeting in Sochi on November 26, it is important to establish a bilateral commission for the demarcation of the state border between Azerbaijan and Armenia, with the request of the parties and with consulting support from Russia. We also expect that the national delegations of both countries will be formed for the commission soon,” Zakharova stated.

According to her, efforts are also continuing within the framework of the trilateral working group aimed at unblocking all economic and transport links in the region. “The matter of implementing the agreements from Sochi was discussed during a phone conversation on December 8 between the Foreign Ministers of Russia and Armenia,” the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
