Russia's Foreign Ministry Calls for Restraint from Escalatory Statements

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called during the weekly briefing for restraint from statements that could lead to an escalation of the conflict.

“We often have to comment on the statements made by the parties. Our fundamental position is that we start from the necessity of refraining from statements and actions that could aim to delay the implementation of agreements reached at the highest level, as well as from statements and actions that could lead to an escalation of the conflict and a deepening of the situation. All of this should be avoided,” Zakharova stated.

This was mentioned by the diplomat in response to a question regarding Aliyev's statement on the timelines for the opening of the so-called 'Zangezur Corridor.' Zakharova added that “Russia, as a mediating country, is undertaking complex actions to ensure that both the agreements are implemented and the situation in the region does not worsen, although it cannot be guaranteed, as this is a long-standing conflict.”
