Will Tatoyan Leave? How Will the New Ombudsman Be Elected? - ArmLur
ArmLur.am has learned that on December 13 at 12:00, an extraordinary meeting of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs will take place in hall 314. The agenda for the meeting includes the issue of proposing a candidate for the position of the Human Rights Defender to the National Assembly.
ArmLur.am previously reported that the ruling Civil Contract faction is proposing the candidacy of Deputy Minister of Justice Kristine Grigoryan for the position of Human Rights Defender. On that day, the matter will be presented in Parliament by CP MP Vladimir Vardanyan.
It is worth mentioning that according to the National Assembly's procedural rules, the Attorney General, Human Rights Defender, head of the Audit Chamber, and other members, as well as the head of the Central Bank, the head of the Central Election Commission, and other members, are elected by secret ballot with at least three-fifths of the votes of the total number of deputies. This means that 64 votes are needed for the CP candidate to pass, while the ruling faction has 71 deputies.
Furthermore, on December 16 at 11:00, a joint meeting of the committees on Financial-Budgetary and Territorial Administration, Local Self-Government, Agriculture, and Environmental Protection will take place in hall 334 to discuss the current conclusions of the Audit Chamber regarding the implementation of the Republic of Armenia's 2021 state budget for the first six months in the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure.
