VIDEO: No one is obligated to verify the diploma's authenticity, says minister regarding governor's fake diploma

During a Q&A session between the National Assembly and the Government, Aregnaz Manukyan, a member of the "Armenia" faction, stated that the governor of Aragatsotn was appointed illegally. The MP noted that Razmik Petrosyan received his diploma in 2002 from a university that was not accredited and the diploma was not valid.

He inquired whether the government was aware that Razmik Petrosyan did not meet the educational requirements for the governor position before appointing him. Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan responded that government employees accepted the relevant documents but did not verify the diploma issuance process, stating that the matter is now a legal issue.

“Mr. Petrosyan has submitted all documents. The relevant departments of the government are not obliged to verify the license of any university. All documents have been submitted and the appointment has been made. If there are problems, I believe it falls within the legal framework, and they will be discussed, but no one in the government checks whether any university's license expired in 2002 or not. Mr. Petrosyan is recognized by all and has made a significant contribution to the defense of the homeland and beyond,” said Sanosyan.

Aregnaz Manukyan remarked that there has been information about this issue for a long time, and the governor should have been dismissed. He concluded that the government knew Razmik Petrosyan did not meet the qualifications for the governor position; therefore, his appointment is illegal and harms the state budget.

“We might think that this person is needed by the authorities to secure votes for the Civil Contract party in elections,” he added.

Sanosyan noted he had answered the question and requested to speak respectfully about Razmik Petrosyan's past.
