34-Year-Old Woman Shot with a Gun Driven by Jealousy and Revenge

The investigation into the murder of a 34-year-old woman has been completed by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia's Armavir Regional Investigation Division. Significant investigative and procedural actions carried out during the pre-trial proceedings have clarified the location of the incident, the motive, and the circumstances leading to the victim suffering life-threatening injuries.

The investigation revealed and substantiated that a 35-year-old man, who was in an informal marital relationship with his 34-year-old girlfriend, had jointly acquired a Nissan Tiana car, which was registered in his name. After some time, upon learning that his girlfriend was in a close relationship with another resident of the Armavir region and was planning to marry him, he attempted to obstruct her, resulting in a tense relationship between them. During this time, he repeatedly made threats to kill her and demanded the return of the jointly purchased car registered in his name.

To resolve their existing disagreements, the man and woman agreed to meet on December 25, 2020, on the Agavnatun-Lernamerdz highway, where the man, motivated by jealousy and revenge, intentionally aimed to kill her. He fired two shots from an "AK-47" type assault rifle, which he had previously taken and was illegally possessing. One shot hit the car door, while the other struck the woman, resulting in life-threatening injuries: a gunshot wound to the chest, abdomen, and left arm, with penetrating, transgressing, and superficial damage.

Based on sufficient evidence, charges have been brought against the 34-year-old suspect under parts 1 of Article 104 and Article 235 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, and he has been remanded in custody. The investigation has been completed, and the criminal case, with an accusatory conclusion, has been sent to court. The investigation regarding the illegal acquisition, sale, storage, transportation, and possession of firearms is ongoing, and measures are being taken to ascertain the source of the weapon.
