VIDEO: Heavy Snowfall in Moscow, The Largest in 70 Years
Record snowfall is expected in Moscow today, December 7. This amount of snow has not been seen since 1949, according to Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center.
Notably, the unprecedented snowfall that has started in Russia since this morning has caused significant traffic issues. The Yandex traffic monitoring system rates the congestion on Moscow's roads at 8 out of 10.
Tishkovets stated on his Instagram: “On December 7, Moscow will experience the heaviest snowfall in post-war history. The snowfall observed today is unprecedented since 1949. Moreover, the upcoming day may match or even exceed the record for precipitation.”
In response to the situation, the country's Ministry of Emergency Situations has promptly mobilized snow removal efforts throughout Moscow's streets since morning.
Given the complicated situation on the roads, the Department of Transport has urged Moscow drivers to leave their personal vehicles at home and utilize public transport to reach their destinations, which will significantly reduce road congestion and help improve the overall traffic situation in the city.
