Fire Breaks Out in Prison in an African Country, at Least 38 Inmates Dead
In the main prison of Gitega, the capital of Burundi, a fire has resulted in the deaths of at least 38 inmates, with dozens more injured.
Vice President Prosper Bazombanza did not specify the cause of the fire. Two local residents reported that the blaze started before dawn. Many of the victims were elderly inmates, according to one local resident who spoke to Reuters.
