Armenian People Lost One of Its Most Precious Friends in the U.S. Says Ararat Mirzoyan

Ararat Mirzoyan, Armenia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, made a statement on his Twitter account regarding the passing of former U.S. Senator and Republican member Bob Dole:

“On December 5, the Armenian people lost one of their most precious friends in the U.S. Senator Dole not only made significant contributions to the relations between Armenia and the United States, but also bravely defended our people's pursuit of justice. Together with his family and friends, we honor the memory of Bob Dole,” said Mirzoyan.

The former senator passed away at the age of 98. He served as the Republican leader in the U.S. Senate from 1985 to 1996 and ran as the Republican presidential candidate in 1996. Dole was a member of the U.S. Congress's Armenian Issues Committee from 1995 to 1996, advocating for bills recognizing the Armenian Genocide, providing financial assistance to Armenia and Artsakh, and participating in the adoption of the U.S. Congress's Section 907 resolution.
