Koghb Community Leader Participated in Election Campaign Despite Being Infected with Coronavirus: 'Zhoghovurd'

The newspaper 'Zhoghovurd' reports that the acting mayor of Koghb, Seryozha (Sergey) Avagyan, who is infected with coronavirus, participated in an election campaign on November 30. The acting mayor himself informed 'Zhoghovurd' about this during an interview.

A video posted on Avagyan's Facebook page on December 1 shows him participating in a campaign in several villages of the ruling Civil Contract party, clearly depicting moments such as laying flowers at a memorial for the fallen heroes of the homeland.

In our conversation, Avagyan stated, "I don't know what the alert is, but I went to Koghb once to conduct a campaign. I went and kept my distance from afar. I didn’t participate in anything else." In response to our observation that the video clearly shows him attending a public event, he replied, "Yes, the test result was positive, and I should have been in quarantine at home for 14 days, but I didn't have symptoms like fever or saturation; those things are normal. That day, I wasn’t doing any campaigning; people came to my village, and I went out to greet them, and that’s it."

After our conversation, Avagyan called back, adding, "On November 25, when I took the test, it was positive, but I also took a test on November 30, the day of the campaign, and that time it came back negative." Avagyan assured that he has the negative test result and is ready to publish it.

It is noteworthy that Article 42 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Republic of Armenia, which pertains to violations of sanitary, sanitary-hygienic, and sanitary-epidemiological rules and norms, stipulates fines ranging from ten to twenty times the minimum wage and for officials, from forty to one hundred times the minimum wage.
