Armen Sarkissian Unaware: '5165 Movement' Issues Statement Following Meeting with President
The '5165 Movement' has issued a statement regarding the meeting held between its members and Armenian President Armen Sarkissian, which we present below.
On November 22, the members of the '5165 Movement' and a group of our compatriots addressed the National Assembly and the President of Armenia, urging them to exercise their constitutional powers to present the content of the documents regarding the delimitation and demarcation between the Republic of Armenia and Azerbaijan to the public.
In response to our written request addressed to the President of Armenia, on November 30, members of the '5165 Movement', Karin Tonoyan and Menua Soghomonyan, met with President Armen Sarkissian. During the meeting, following the exchange of various questions and thoughts directed towards the President, the members of the '5165 Movement' particularly gained the following impressions:
- The process of delimitation and demarcation between the Republic of Armenia and Azerbaijan is closely linked to the Artsakh issue, in which Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has established a monopoly on decision-making.
- President Armen Sarkissian is unaware of the maps, principles, and red lines underlying the delimitation and demarcation process between the Republic of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
- The President of Armenia lacks actual constitutional powers in terms of making, shaping, or coordinating foreign policy decisions.
- It is known to the current authorities what President Armen Sarkissian's visions and viewpoints are regarding the strategic approaches to Armenia's development and the state policy on Artsakh. However, according to the impressions received by the Movement's members, these are either disregarded or not understood by the current authorities.
- In the context of resolving the ongoing crisis, it is crucial to implement constitutional changes that ensure effective mechanisms for checks and balances between branches of government.
Regardless of the outcomes of the meeting, we remain of the opinion that, in essence, Nikol Pashinyan conducts governance unilaterally, without taking into account the opinions of other state bodies, making one-sided and dangerous decisions on issues of national importance and security. It thus becomes clear that in this dire situation for Armenia, no one has the capability to influence any processes to halt the dangerous developments threatening our country. An entire nation is, in fact, condemned to endure the severe consequences of Nikol Pashinyan's shortsighted, uncalculated, and incompetent governance. From this, it follows that uniting the entire public around the removal of Nikol Pashinyan's government is an urgent necessity; otherwise, the losses will be much greater.
