The Government Decides to Resolve Ghazinian's Nomination Issue Through Legislative Change: What Will the Opposition Do?

As is known, the National Assembly faction of the "Civil Contract" party proposes an amendment to the National Assembly regulations, stipulating that if the opposition faction has nominated a candidate for the position of vice-chair of the committee, who is not elected once, then they must nominate another candidate. According to the proposed amendment, if the second candidate of the opposition is also not elected, then the government will nominate its "less undesirable" candidate.

The purpose of the draft is to resolve the issue of Arthur Ghazinian not being elected as the vice-chair of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security for the 14th time. Ghazinian's candidacy is unacceptable to the ruling political majority, while the parliamentary opposition is steadfast and does not intend to change its nominee. Meanwhile, ruling MP Vahagn Aleksanyan stated that they do not have preferred candidates, but they do have less undesirable candidates.

ArmDaily.am contacted Gegham Manukyan, a member of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security and an MP from the "Armenia" faction, to clarify what the opposition plans to do. "They announced this a long time ago; this is already a usual practice. Any law, any provision that hinders this government from committing illegalities, they swiftly change the laws, and there are many examples of this," Manukyan noted.

When asked what the opposition will do if the law is amended, Manukyan responded, "The question is what they are going to do; if they change the law, then it will be seen what they are planning to do."
