Protest in Yerevan: Demanding Release of Ashot Minasyan from Detention

“Do not arrest those who have been responsible for the country's security with their lives. Those who have won and given you a homeland. Do you think these people should escape your responsibility? Ashot Minasyan didn't escape the Turkish threat, should he escape from the Turkish slander? Aren't you ashamed, what are you doing?” said military figure Gevorg Gevorgyan during a recent interview with journalists at a protest that started in front of the Prosecutor General's Office.

The protest is organized by the initiative “Voice of the Homeland” and cultural figures who demand the release of Colonel Ashot Minasyan, a legendary participant in three Artsakh wars and commander of the “Sisakan” squad.

“You are keeping all the people who are responsible for the country in detention. You say that Ashot Minasyan allegedly intended to stage a military coup, but why are you arresting Armen Charents? People are being arrested who can properly organize the country's defense and protect the society. Our society must understand that with such shows, they are simply surrendering our homeland; they must realize that we must finally get out and fight, there is no other option. They are surrendering our homeland; our society must understand this,” he added.
