Armenian Prisoners of War Must Be Unconditionally Returned Home: Makunts in Meeting with US Senator

The Armenian Ambassador to the US, Lilit Makunts, has discussed the need for the unconditional repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war held by Azerbaijan with US Senator Edward Markey. The information was reported by the Armenian Embassy in the US, adding that a virtual meeting took place on December 1.

The interlocutors addressed the security environment in the region, and in this context, Makunts presented the position and assessment of the Republic of Armenia. “Makunts emphasized the necessity for the unconditional repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war held by Azerbaijan, to which Markey expressed his willingness to work in the Senate to facilitate the release of the prisoners,” the statement said.

Makunts also underscored the importance of a comprehensive resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship and informed about the ongoing processes in this direction.
