The Oldest Carpet in the World Has Armenian Roots: Khajak Sirekanyan

Khajak Sirekanyan, a researcher of historical materials, wrote on his Facebook: "The oldest carpet in the world has Armenian origins. This carpet, dating back to the 5th-3rd centuries BC, was discovered in one of the tombs in Siberia. Renowned carpet expert Urikh Shurman considers the carpet to be Armenian because it is characteristic of the Armenian embroidery style. This conclusion has also been reached by specialists from the Hermitage, who note that the threads of the carpet are dyed with cochineal red, which is produced in the Ararat Valley. The technique of double knots in the carpet is considered Armenian, which the Persians call 'Armani baff,' meaning Armenian work. Similar textiles have been found in Karmir Blur and in the Areni cave."
