Water Tariffs to Increase from January 1

Water Tariffs to Increase from January 1

The Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia has set the tariffs for drinking water supply and sewage services provided by Veolia Water for its subscribers. For 2022, the tariff for socially vulnerable subscribers will remain unchanged at 180 drams, while for other subscribers, it will be 200.47 drams.

It should be noted that on August 9, 2021, Veolia Water submitted a request to the Commission to revise (adjust) the tariffs for drinking water supply and sewage services for 2022. In order to adjust the actual volumes of retail water supply included in the calculation of service tariffs, the Commission initiated monitoring from September 1 to November 1, 2021, with the participation of representatives from the Water Committee of Armenia, Veolia Water, and consumer protection NGOs. As a result, an additional retail water supply volume of 2,137,566 cubic meters was calculated.

Additionally, to establish the lowest possible tariffs for socially vulnerable families, the Armenian government's decision No. 1880-N was adopted on November 18, 2021. To neutralize sharp fluctuations in the tariffs for drinking water supply and sewage services over the remaining 10 years of the lease agreement and to ensure a stable tariff policy for consumers, agreement No. 24 was signed on November 10, 2021, between Veolia O-Compagnie Generale des Eaux, Veolia Water, and the Armenian government (through the Water Committee), based on which appropriate amendments were made to the license conditions of Veolia Water.

The new tariffs will take effect from January 1, 2022.
