Vaccination of At-Risk Children Aged 5-11 to Begin in France

The French high health authority has ordered the vaccination against coronavirus for at-risk and vulnerable children aged 5-11, reports Armenpress.

The announcement from the French medical regulator came after the approval of the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine for children aged 5-11 at the European Union level. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has instructed the extension of COVID vaccine use for this age group.

Subsequently, the high health authority in France analyzed the epidemiological data for this age group, as well as existing information on the vaccine's effectiveness.

The French medical regulator now advises that vaccination be made available to those children in this age group who are at risk of severe illness and death, and those who live with people with weakened immune systems or vulnerable individuals who are not protected by vaccination,” states the regulator's announcement.

Additionally, the French high health authority has directed to strengthen preventive measures in schools, maintain restrictions, and regularly conduct COVID-19 tests. In recent weeks, experts have noted a sharp increase in COVID-19 incidence across all age groups. Children aged 6 to 11 have become the group with the "highest level of illness" among school-age children, highlighted the regulator.
