Omicron Variant Has Reached Japan

Japan has registered its first case of the new coronavirus variant, Omicron. This is reported by the Kyodo news agency. According to the agency, the individual is a man who arrived from Namibia. It was previously reported that a coronavirus test at Narita International Airport had detected the virus in him.

During an emergency meeting, the World Health Organization classified the new variant of the coronavirus, discovered in South Africa, as a variant of concern and named it after the Greek letter 'Omicron'. At this point, cases of infection with the Omicron variant have also been registered in Hong Kong, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, France, Canada, the Netherlands, Australia, the UK, and several other countries.
