Lawyers of David Tonoyan Issue Statement

The lawyers of the former Minister of Defense of Armenia, David Tonoyan, have issued a statement, in which they specifically mention:

“Following discussions lasting approximately 15 hours regarding the petition to extend the detention of David Tonoyan, the court decided to extend the duration of his detention for 2 months, but the decision has yet to be formally received. Considering the absence of information in the materials presented by the prosecuting authority regarding the conditions of detention as well as the grounds for detention, we must state that due to the lack of sufficient and qualified knowledge on the part of the prosecuting authority and the court regarding the formulation and decision-making processes of administrative and economic activities in the defense sector, David Tonoyan's right to freedom is being continuously violated, one of the underlying aims of which is to affect his reputation.

We once again draw the attention of the political leadership to the non-objective investigation being conducted against D. Tonoyan, of which vivid evidence includes the unlawful, subjective, and unprofessional interpretations in the criminal case, based solely on assumptions.”
