Citizen Reports Mother's Death Due to Indifferent Medical Staff; Hospital Responds
Beautiful Bulghadyan wrote on her Facebook page: "Exactly one month ago, on October 26, we transferred my mother to the hell known as the 'Vanadzor Medical Center'. Diagnosis: Covid-19. My mother walked to the Admission area on her own (with 84 saturation, consciousness preserved) without a stretcher or wheelchair. Instead of performing a CT scan on her lungs, the 'ignorant' doctors sent my mother for an X-ray, which cannot provide any clear data regarding the percentage of lung involvement or the status of the pneumonia, whether it's developing or not. We wasted 2 days uselessly in the admission area, where my mother (who has diabetes) only received Ceftriaxone, Dexamethasone, and a very small amount of oxygen, as it later became clear there was a problem with oxygen. We brought the oxygen from another city ourselves. The indifferent medical staff at the hospital didn’t even check the saturation 1-2 times a day, the orderlies did not help in any way, they only occasionally hinted that we should give them money, the nurses approached only after asking the same thing 10 times… After torturing my mother for 2 days, we finally transferred her to the 'Infectious' unit. In those two days, the saturation dropped so much that a competent doctor should have urgently transferred a 42-year-old diabetic woman to the intensive care unit, but we were told to wait as there was no space. They didn’t care that our patient was dying from asphyxiation. Until November 2, my mother fought. On November 2, an ambulance took my mother from 'Infectious' to the hospital, where there was an available bed… I was in the vehicle, and the doctor and nurse left a patient dependent on oxygen to fate, they didn’t even help me hold the oxygen mask on her face, they laid her on her stomach, and my mother was convulsing the entire way… Apparently, there was not enough oxygen; she couldn’t be moved. The emergency doctor called the hospital’s Admission on the way, saying that they were transferring an extremely serious patient: 'Call the intensivist in the Admission and prepare a large oxygen cylinder.' When we arrived, there was neither the intensivist, nor the oxygen cylinder, nor was the elevator opened. By the time this damned hospital's elevator opened with a special card, and by the time they took my mother upstairs, she could not hold on anymore… My mother died on November 2, but not from Covid, but from the indifference, arrogance, and chaos of these self-proclaimed doctors… Know that at every possible opportunity I will disgrace your so-called HELL of a hospital, where instead of treatment, they kill patients… It’s a pity that the list has grown to include my 42-year-old young mother…"
Auroranews contacted the director of the Vanadzor Medical Center, Vahagn Mkrtchyan, who stated that he is currently on vacation during the case registration and is conducting pre-election campaigning. He noted that a service investigation has been appointed in their hospital, and he has also ordered a written document to be prepared and sent to the Prosecutor's Office for a detailed investigation based on all the incidents mentioned in the record.
