We Have a Situation of Leaving Artsakh Alone: Tevan Poghosyan on the Trilateral Meeting
Yesterday, a document was signed, which effectively sold the topic of Artsakh to Azerbaijan, detailing how they would resolve it and what actions they would take. This was stated by Tevan Poghosyan, the head of the International Center for Human Development, in an interview with Tert.am, referring to the meeting of Armenian, Russian, and Azerbaijani leaders that took place yesterday.
“We have a situation of leaving Artsakh alone,” he said, expressing regret that there are no authorities concerned with our Armenian interests. Tevan Poghosyan considered it most troubling that it was not specified that until the status of Artsakh is resolved, there would be no legal assurance, delimitation, or demarcation taking place.
“A defeated government cannot avoid continuing its defeats; they will only deepen and expand,” he stated. Regarding the issue of the corridor, Tevan Poghosyan noted that the problem is not in the word corridor, but in the content of the issue, which is enshrined in the November 9 document.
“Now I understand that the current government will sell us the idea that the issue of prisoners is expressed under humanitarian formulations, it will be presented as a play on words, but the issue of prisoners is not just a matter of words, it is actually about the return of people,” he explained, observing that Aliyev presented himself yesterday as quite the humanitarian.
Commenting on Russian President Putin’s positions, he stated that Putin is the President of the Russian Federation and is guided by Russian interests. “We have had enough of talking about the pains and sorrows of world leaders. We are a country living in a state of war, with ongoing economic, informational, and diplomatic battles, and we do not know if they will shoot or not,” he added.
Concerning the upcoming meeting on December 15 between the presidents of the two countries, he noted that calls for peace would again be heard. “I would like the recognition process of the Republic of Artsakh or issues related to the rights to be enshrined at that meeting, and actions to be taken against the destruction of Armenian heritage,” he said, adding that he has no hope that our authorities can achieve this.
