We Are Not ‘Whistleblowers,’ Enough Already. Macron Responds with Anger to British Prime Minister’s Letter

A diplomatic standoff is brewing between France and Great Britain over the ongoing migration crisis. French President Emmanuel Macron has responded with anger to a letter from British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, in which Johnson urged French authorities to take back refugees attempting to cross the English Channel.

According to British news outlet BBC, Macron described Johnson's letter, which began with "Dear Emmanuel," as the peak of absurdity following the tragic incident on Wednesday, when 27 refugees drowned while trying to reach British shores.

“Two days ago, I spoke seriously with Prime Minister Johnson and will continue to engage in the same manner as I do with all countries and all leaders. I am astonished by these unserious methods. Our leaders do not communicate through Twitter and public letters. We are not whistleblowers. Enough already,” Macron said during a press conference as reported by The Guardian.

In the aftermath of Johnson's letter, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin informed his British counterpart, Priti Patel, that he would not be attending a meeting scheduled for Sunday, November 28, in France.
