Turkey's Main Preconditions Have Been Met, Says Sargsyan
International relations expert Suren Sargsyan has written: "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that it has turned to Russia for mediation in regulating Armenian-Turkish relations. What does this mean? Turkey has consistently set several preconditions before us: a rejection of the international recognition of the genocide, ceding Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijan, and now the opening of the Nakhchivan-Azerbaijan corridor. These are the main, but not all, preconditions. Moreover, the third precondition took on flesh and blood at the end of 2020.
What do we have now? Turkey's main preconditions have actually been satisfied. The Armenian side has withdrawn from the process of international recognition of the genocide. Artsakh has been surrendered. Now, if Turkey has set the condition of the corridor, and Armenia is seeking Russia’s mediation, then the Armenian side is also ready to satisfy that precondition.
I do not rule out that the term 'without preconditions' has been applied by the Armenian side to 'secondary' preconditions (such as amendments to the Declaration of Independence, removal of Ararat from the coat of arms, renunciation of territorial claims, etc.). Otherwise, what other preconditions could there be? We have satisfied all the main preconditions, and we will soon satisfy one more."
