A Colleague Arrested in Connection with the Death of Soldier Suren Avetisyan

According to preliminary data, the soldier received a fatal gunshot wound to the head as a result of a violation of weapon handling rules by a colleague. This was reported by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.

“As a result of immediate investigative actions undertaken in the 6th garrison investigative division of the military investigative main department of the RA Investigative Committee, several significant circumstances related to the death of conscript soldier Suren Roman Avetisyan, are established, including the identity of the individual allegedly committing the crime,” the statement said.

It was noted that the soldier received a fatal gunshot wound to the head due to a colleague’s violation of weapon handling rules. The colleague has been arrested.

Let us recall that Suren Avetisyan sustained incompatible bodily injuries on November 24, 2021, around 14:50, at the combat position located in the protection area of military unit N of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, and died on the way to the hospital. The investigation is ongoing,” the statement added.
