VIDEO. Will There Be a Constitutional Referendum on Demarcation and Delimitation? Pashinyan
During an online press conference today, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was asked whether the issue of demarcation and delimitation will be put to a constitutional referendum after the completion of the work.
Although the Prime Minister mentioned that the final document—the agreement that will be signed—should be ratified by the parliaments, he did not answer whether the question would be put to a referendum or not.
In response to the question of whether Armenia’s move towards demarcation and delimitation signifies a renunciation of Artsakh and recognition of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, including the territory of Artsakh, Pashinyan replied: “When our countries gained independence in 1991, we mutually recognized each other's territorial integrity. Did it mean that Armenia was renouncing the rights of Artsakh at that time? Demarcation and delimitation are processes, and Armenia must protect its interests in them. In general, when we talk about the Republic of Armenia, we need to understand this not as an amorphous thing without borders, but as a very specific territory. This is the fundamental guarantee for protecting our sovereignty.”
