38-Year-Old Man on Victory Bridge Threatens Suicide as Negotiations Continue

Over the past hour and a half, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations' rescue service, along with a crisis negotiator and patrol officers from the Yerevan division of the Armenian police, have been negotiating with a man who has crossed a dangerous edge on the Victory Bridge and is threatening to take his own life.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, a report was received at around 11:30 at the operational management center of the Armenian police, indicating that a citizen had crossed the dangerous edge of the Victory Bridge and was threatening suicide.

Patrol officers from the 3rd battalion of the Yerevan division, led by battalion commander Gor Arakelyan, are currently on the scene. An ambulance team from Yerevan's 1-03 service has also arrived promptly. The psychologist from the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the battalion commander have been negotiating with the man for over an hour, and they were recently joined by Aram Melkonyan, the mayor of Vardenis, who, according to eyewitnesses, happened to be passing by the area and approached the rescuers and patrol officers upon noticing the situation. The mayor is currently engaged in negotiations with the individual.

An operational group from the central division of the police is also present at the scene. According to G. Shamshyan’s information, the man attempting suicide is 38-year-old Artak S.
