The "Russkiye Vityazi" aerobatic team of the Russian Air Force is unique in the world for performing solo and group aerobatics on heavy fighters. The team was established on April 5, 1991, at the Kubinka airport (Moscow region) based on the first aviation squadron of the aviation technology demonstration center. By early 1991, the aerobatic group was finalized with six aircraft, and it was officially founded on April 5, 1991, under the name "Russkiye Vityazi." A distinctive emblem was created for the new unit, featuring a shield with a blue background and a diamond shape with four aircraft, while special suits were designed for the pilots.
In 2016, the aerobatic team's arsenal was supplemented with Su-30SM aircraft. The pilots have fully mastered these aircraft and are executing an updated aerial program with the latest multifunctional Su-30SM fighters, which enable the demonstration of the modern aviation systems' capabilities. In November 2019, the "Russkiye Vityazi" received Su-35S fighters. The "4+" and "4++" generation fighter jets, including Su-30SM and Su-35S, feature new aircraft control systems, advanced weaponry systems, and avionics. These aircraft are equipped with new engines that allow pilots to operate them confidently, manage the aircraft in aerobatic mode, and at any speed.
