A shooting took place in the Old City of Jerusalem on Sunday morning, resulting in one person dead and three others injured. Emergency services reported that among the injured are civilians and members of the border police, as reported by jpost.com.

“This morning, a brutal shooting occurred in the Old City of Jerusalem. Currently, we have one fatality and three injuries,” said Prime Minister Naftali Bennett at the opening of the weekly cabinet meeting.

According to police reports, officers at the scene opened fire on the gunman, a Palestinian resident of East Jerusalem, and killed him. He was later identified as Fadi Abu Shkhaydam, a 42-year-old resident of the Shuafat refugee camp and a member of HAMAS (a Palestinian Islamist political party that currently governs the Gaza Strip).

The Minister of Public Security, Bar Lev, who arrived at the scene of the attack, stated that Abu Shkhaydam had been praying at the Al-Aqsa Mosque daily but began shooting this Sunday.
