VIDEO. From Kapan to Jrakaten: What is Really Happening on the Roads of Border Settlements

To reach Jrakaten from Kapan, one must now traverse 150 km instead of the previous 8 km—via Kapan to Meghri and then to Jrakaten. Following the establishment of a checkpoint by Azerbaijani forces on the Kapan-Jrakaten road, six villages have been cut off from direct connection to Kapan.

The alternative route that has been mentioned is impassable, and no vehicles can travel that way. NEWS.am attempted to find a vehicle willing to take that route but was unsuccessful.

The news crew reached Meghri from Kapan, and from Meghri, no transportation operates towards Jrakaten, with the minimum cost for a taxi being 20,000 drams.

The first village on the road from Meghri to Jrakaten is Tsavni, which has also lost its direct connection to Kapan. A resident of Tsavni stated, “We are waiting for the road to open soon, without panic, because panic will lead us to more evacuations, which we do not need. We are psychologically and physically prepared for this.”

Another resident remarked that if they had known that this road would be closed, the construction of the alternative route should have begun sooner. “We used to sell most of our products in Kapan, but now that the road is closed, there has been a rush for bread in the villages. Previously, one would buy 5-6 lavashes, but now it’s 20-30,” he noted.
