Surgery Not Conducted During Service, Compounded by Injury in War: Ombudsman
Former serviceman Narek Asatryan has undergone nasal surgery as a result of collaboration between the Armenian Human Rights Defender and the Ministry of Defense. This was reported by the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, on his Facebook page.
“Complaints addressed to the Human Rights Defender indicate that, due to legislation, certain former servicemen who acquired illnesses during service are not entitled to free medical assistance and services. It should be noted that through the discussion of several complaints and cooperation with relevant authorities, free medical assistance and services are practically provided to former servicemen. However, the issue is more profound and systemic, as individuals continuously face obstacles because of existing legislation,” he wrote.
The Human Rights Defender does not limit himself to merely identifying issues but also presents specific solutions to them. Official proposals have been sent to the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Defense and Security, including to sectoral committees and factions, as well as the Ministries of Defense and Justice,” he added.
