Son of Syunik Governor Released from Custody
The son of Syunik Governor Melikset Poghosyan, Karen Poghosyan, has been released from custody. ArmLur.am has learned that the investigator sought to extend Poghosyan's detention in court; however, the court rejected the investigator's request.
As reported, on September 21, the governor's son voluntarily presented himself at the Investigative Committee of Armenia’s main department for the investigation of particularly important cases, after which Poghosyan was arrested and taken to the 'Armavir' penitentiary.
It is worth noting that the governor's son has been wanted since July 21, on charges under Article 34-104, Part 2, Clauses 1 and 6, and Article 235, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia.
Recall that on July 13, 2021, gunshots were heard in the town of Goris, resulting in injuries to two individuals. One of the injured is the relative of former Syunik Governor Surik Khachatryan, while the other is Harutyun Vardanyan, a friend of the current governor's son, Karen Poghosyan.
Based on the criminal case opened in connection with the incident, a decision was made to charge Karen Poghosyan, and a request was submitted to the court to choose detention as a measure of restraint, which was granted.
