Putin Comments on the Situation at the Armenian-Azerbaijani Border

The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, has highlighted the interest of all countries in resolving the situation in the region. 'The recent gunfire has shown that the situation there has not stabilized,' he said while addressing diplomats.

According to him, the role of Russian diplomacy is growing in the resolution of the situation between Armenia and Azerbaijan. 'There is a high demand for the efforts of the Russian peacekeeping contingent to ensure stability as a guarantor of the ceasefire and the safety of the civilian population,' he stated at a meeting of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Putin noted the growing role of Russian diplomacy in restoring economic ties and unblocking vital transport corridors in the South Caucasus. 'We have established an appropriate intergovernmental commission at the level of deputy prime ministers; in my opinion, there are no bad prospects there,' said the Russian president.

The Russian leader emphasized the importance of further developing an atmosphere of friendship and partnership in the post-Soviet space.
