Non-working Days During New Year's Holidays to be Reduced. National Assembly Approves Bill
The National Assembly of Armenia approved the government’s draft law in its second reading and in full, establishing that non-working days during the New Year holidays will be from December 31 to January 2, including January 6.
According to Armenpress, the draft law amending the Republic of Armenia’s law on public holidays and commemorative days received 57 votes in favor during the parliamentary session. Changes were made to the draft during the discussion from the first to the second reading. In the version adopted on the first reading, the government proposed to recognize only December 31, January 1, and January 6 as non-working days.
For the second reading, the executive branch suggested including January 2 as a non-working day. After the draft was passed in the first reading, the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin proposed that January 5 also be recognized as a non-working day to commemorate the Feast of the Nativity and Theophany, as well as January 7 as a day of remembrance for the dead.
