Details on Meruzhan Harutyunyan, who died in Sisian, being with his brother on the day of the incident

On the eastern border zone, a 30-year-old contract soldier, Meruzhan Harutyunyan, was killed during combat operations on November 16. He was a participant in the 44-day war. Despite sustaining injuries during the war, he continued to fight until its conclusion. “A shell exploded nearby and damaged his ear. He had issues with his hearing,” said a relative of Meruzhan Harutyunyan in an interview with NEWS.am.

Originally from Gyumri, Meruzhan and his brother were contract soldiers living in Yerevan. Meruzhan had joined the contract service about four years ago, while his brother followed him later.

“Recently, they had mainly been stationed in Goris and Sisian. On the day of the incident, they had gone to the positions in a service vehicle with his brother, who stayed below while Meruzhan ascended to the positions,” explained Meruzhan’s relative.

Meruzhan was married and had two children: a 12-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son.

It is worth noting that the situation was extremely tense on the eastern direction of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border yesterday. Around 1:00 PM, units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces attacked Armenian positions, utilizing artillery, armored vehicles, and firearms of various calibers. Following mediation from the Russian side, a ceasefire was agreed upon at 6:30 PM, and the situation stabilized relatively.

The Ministry of Defense has so far reported only one casualty: contract soldier Meruzhan Arthur Harutyunyan, born in 1991. There are 13 soldiers missing, and contact has been lost with 24 soldiers, whose fates remain unknown at this time.
