The Mayor of Nerkhin Hand Speaks About the Problems Faced Due to the Installation of an Azerbaijani Checkpoint
At the moment, we can only move through this road to Meghri, Kajaran, and Kapan; we have no other route. This was stated by Khachatur Baghdasaryan, the head of the Nerkhin Hand community in Syunik province, in an interview with Tert.am regarding the Azerbaijani checkpoint installed on the Kapan-Jakaten road and the proposed alternative route.
“It was 36 km from our village to Kapan, but the alternative route through Meghri is 150-160 km. There is a forest road that is not operational; it was functional in the 90s, but has not been used since then, and it needs to be repaired,” he said.
Khachatur Baghdasaryan mentioned that there are agreements in place to bring bread to the village at 7 PM, but solutions to other issues are still being discussed. “The enemy has brought and set up the checkpoint, but our government should consider the interests of the residents. This is the situation right now, these are the issues we are facing,” he said.
It is worth noting that yesterday the National Security Service announced that Azerbaijani and Armenian checkpoints would be installed on the Kapan-Jakaten road. The mayor of Kapan responded that six villages in Kapan are facing a difficult situation, with those villages housing 600-700 residents, and that security-related issues need to be discussed.
