UN Calls on Armenia: Concern for the Nation

The UN Human Rights Committee has expressed concern about the arbitrary restrictions on peaceful gatherings in Armenia, police interference in peaceful demonstrations, and the arbitrary detention and imprisonment of protesters. This was reported by the UN press service.

In their report, the authors urged Armenia to reduce the presence of police personnel during protests and to investigate all reports of excessive use of force, arbitrary detentions, and imprisonments.

Committee members have called on Armenia to ensure full compliance with the country’s domestic law. The committee has also expressed concern about attempts by executive and legislative bodies to influence the judiciary.

Experts have raised questions regarding the appointment of judges and prosecutors. The UN Human Rights Committee has advised Armenia to ensure the protection of judges and prosecutors from any form of pressure and interference.
