Levon Aronian Defeats Russian Rival to Advance to Quarterfinals of Rapid Chess World Championship
Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian has started the 2021 Speed Chess Championship with a victory. Aronian secured his place in the quarterfinals by defeating Russian representative Daniil Dubov with a score of 15-12 in the online tournament's round of 16.
He will face China's Ding Liren in the quarterfinals, who eliminated Azerbaijani grandmaster Shakhriyar Mamedyarov in the opening round.
The 2021 Rapid Chess Championship features 16 top grandmasters competing for a prize pool of $100,000. The tournament is being held from November 8 to December 19 on Chess.com.
