David Chaloyan – Boxing World Vice Champion
Member of the Armenian boxing team, David Chaloyan faced Russia's representative, Mark Petrovsky, in the finals of the super heavyweight category and unfortunately lost by the judges' decision. The boxer from Gyumri, participating for the first time in the adults' World Championship, became the first vice champion in the super heavyweight category from Armenia. With Chaloyan, Armenia had its first representative in the World Championship finals in 12 years.
Chaloyan began his journey from the 1/16 finals, where he secured a 4-1 victory over Ukraine's Tsonti Rovaga. In the 1/8 finals, Chaloyan won again with the same score of 4-1 against Colombian Cristian Salcedo Codas. He achieved an impressive victory in the quarterfinals against Uzbekistan's Lazizbek Mulujonov. In the semifinals, Chaloyan competed against the double European champion and Tokyo Olympic participant from Azerbaijan, Mahammad Abdulayev, and won decisively with a score of 5-0.
