Hundreds of Saakashvili's Supporters Hold Protest March in Tbilisi
Hundreds of supporters of former President Mikheil Saakashvili, who is currently in custody in Georgia, are holding a protest march in Tbilisi. According to Novosti-Georgia, the action organized by Saakashvili's supporters is periodically conducted by the opposition party he founded, the United National Movement.
Today, the protesters gathered in two locations near different metro stations. The first group headed towards the building of the Ministry of Health, while the second group went to the Ministry of Justice. Participants of the demonstration are chanting “Misha,” “Georgia,” “Long live Georgia,” and also whistling and making noise. Many have prepared banners reading “Freedom for Misha.”
Political leaders are expected to announce the demands of the protesters near the government offices. The country's largest opposition party is trying to move Saakashvili to a private hospital. On November 8, the 39th day of his hunger strike, Saakashvili was transferred from the Rustavi prison to the hospital of the Gldani prison.
