At least 16 people have died in Sri Lanka due to floods and landslides
At least 16 people have died in Sri Lanka as a result of floods and landslides following over a week of heavy rains, reports AP.
The Disaster Management Center has reported that more than 5,000 people have been displaced from their homes. Most of the fatalities occurred due to lightning strikes and drowning. It has been reported that at least one person is missing.
October and November are the monsoon season in Sri Lanka. However, this year the country has experienced higher-than-normal rainfall in many areas.
