What Was Pashinyan's Real Purpose for His Visit to Kapan: ‘Hraparak’
The newspaper ‘Hraparak’ reports: Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan visited Kapan yesterday to attend the memorial service for the father of the ruling party candidate. From early morning, the city experienced unprecedented excitement, with a heavy presence of police vehicles. The father of the ruling party candidate, Davit Danielyan, recently passed away from coronavirus.
Although Pashinyan's main purpose for visiting Kapan was to attend the memorial service, local residents also viewed it as a campaign move in support of the government candidate.
It is noteworthy that the ruling party candidate's opponent is the incumbent community mayor Gevorg Parsyan, who has been nominated by the ‘Shant Alliance’ party. Also, it is remembered that in 2018, local elections were held in Kapan, where Parsyan was again a candidate, and the ruling party nominated current deputy governor Narek Babayan. Pashinyan himself participated in the campaign, but they faced defeat, marking the first loss for the ruling party while the young leadership was at its peak in popularity.
