Levon Aronian Suffers First Defeat in Tournament
The Grand Swiss chess tournaments for men and women are ongoing in Riga. The seventh round matches took place yesterday.
In the men’s tournament, our chess players Manuel Petrosyan and Gabriel Sargsyan have the best results with 4.5 points each, sharing the 5-32nd places, and are one point behind the leader of the tournament. Both players drew their games in this round.
The tournament standings are led by Iranian grandmaster Alireza Firouzja, representing France, who has 5.5 points.
Samuel Ter-Sahakyan secured his second victory (4 points), and Robert Hovhannisyan also has 4 points, while Levon Aronian (3.5 points) suffered his first defeat in the tournament.
In the women’s tournament, Armenia's two representatives, Elina Danielyan (2.5 points) and Anna Sargsyan (2.5 points), are sharing the 39-44th places in the standings.
It is noteworthy that the top two players in the tournament will qualify for the World Championship Candidates Tournament.
