Government Does Not Approve Proposal by the 'Armenia' Faction
The government did not approve the legislative initiative of the National Assembly's 'Armenia' faction during its meeting today.
It should be noted that the opposition faction presented a package of draft laws on amendments to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia and the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia.
The draft proposed to annul Article 137.1 of the Criminal Code, which criminalizes insulting a person or offending their dignity in an extremely obscene manner.
The government's conclusion states: "The decriminalization of the aforementioned conduct, which intends to impose a legally justified and proportionate restriction, cannot be considered justified in light of the fact that it was criminalized just three months ago. The Government of the Republic of Armenia suggests leaving the articles of the currently discussed codes unchanged."
