Who Gives Him the Right to Discuss Changes to the Human Rights Defender? Tatoyan on Armen Grigoryan

The official has exceeded his authority, said Armenia's Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan during a meeting with journalists, referring to the remarks made by Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan, who claimed that the statements made by the Human Rights Defender were political.

“Who in general has given him the right to discuss changes to the Human Rights Defender? This is a blatant assault on the independent institution of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, especially by a high-ranking official of the executive branch. Since there is an authority in Armenia that initiates proceedings for violations of the rules of conduct of public servants, addressing accountability, and that is the Commission on the Prevention of Corruption, I have officially appealed to the Commission on the Prevention of Corruption. This person must be held accountable for his statements, in order to ensure the uninterrupted, unhindered, and independent work of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia in the future,” said Arman Tatoyan.

It should be noted that Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan criticized Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan in an interview with rusarm.info, stating that he “has never seen an impartial statement from him.”

“The Human Rights Defender makes political statements that are later denied by the Ministry of Defense or other ministries. He has obviously presented himself in the opposition field and is earning dividends,” said Grigoryan.
